Do you Have a Resource Room? Allowing Patients to Sign Out Educational Material
A resource room is an area in your dental office where patients can locate answers to their questions and find resources they need. Many hospitals and specialty medical practices use resource rooms to educate their patients….why not a dental practice?
It doesn’t have to be a separate room if you don’t have the space – a closet will do, or even an area of your waiting room. In addition to providing brochures and handouts, also consider offering books, videos and other materials such as tooth models for checkout to patients and community groups.
Offer information on a wide variety of dental-related topics, such as the importance of mouth protectors for sports programs, the effects of chewing tobacco, the impact of eating sugary foods, the importance of calcium, preventing tooth decay in infants, and teething issues.
The benefit to you of having a resource room is that it will educate your patients, and possibly the community, and help establish your practice as the place to go for the answers. Ultimately, it could increase patient satisfaction, referrals and overall business growth.
