A Cheerful Waiting Room Lessens Patient Anxiety
Did you ever have to visit a relative in the hospital when you were a kid? Unless the relative had just had a baby and your hospital visiting experience was limited to a joy-filled maternity floor, that visit was pretty scary, wasn't it?
Anytime we are expected to spend time in an environment we have been conditioned to believe has to include pain—even when pain doesn't need to be experienced—feelings of anxiety are almost certain to result.
Therefore, one of the best moves any dentist can make is making the waiting room as cheerful and comfortable as possible. Cheerful surroundings go a long way toward allaying and anxiety and fears both real and imaginary. They enable people to relax, and when you provide an environment that in which they can relax, your patients can will love you even more than they already do.
Studies have clearly shown that cheerful environments make people feel better…more upbeat, happier and relaxed. And wouldn't you rather have your patients arrive at your dental chair feeling, calm, relaxed, upbeat and ready to have you improve their smiles?
Sure you would. So get busy making sure your waiting room is the kind of cheerful environment that makes people feel less anxious, not more so!
