How to Win Over Clients Who Have Had a Bad Experience with a Previous Dentist
Patients who come to your office after having had bad experiences with another dentist may be a lot like a puppy or kitten who has suffered abuse—wary and frightened about whatever is going to happen next.
And a patient's previous dentist doesn't have to have been abusive for this kind of reaction to occur. Sometimes people aren't properly prepared for procedures, or the finer points haven't been properly explained to them. Whatever the cause, when a patient such as this shows up in your office, it's up to you to allay their fears and reverse their feelings about getting dental work done in a manner that will make them glad they chose you.
Sometimes just listening is enough to relieve anxiety. More likely, you'll need to explain everything you are going to do beforehand, including discussing treatment options costs.
Patience and a willingness to listen and explain things can transform even the most frightened dental patient into a calm and relaxed one. It make take some time, but the final result is well worth the effort!
