Effective Ways to Approach a Client about Extensive Dental Needs
How do you approach a client who has extensive dental needs? To use the old joke line, "Like porcupines make love–very carefully."
Most people are far more sensitive about their appearance than they may realize. Even when people know that their looks fall well short of what they would like them to be, nothing can hurt quite as much as being told they need improvements. And many people are genuinely unaware of the affect that their looks have on others.
Dental improvements always improve patients' health and appearance. So when you have a patient with extensive dental needs, you should broach the subject of making needed improvements from the standpoint of increasing health first and appearance second. Often, people can respond more positively to suggestions about how to improve their health than they will to suggestions about how to improve their appearance. Take advantage of that knowledge to approach your patients in a manner they will most likely hear.
